Jewish Coinage. Herod the Great, 40-4 BCE. AE 8 Prutot (23mm) minted at Samaria, dated year 3. Helmet flanked by two palm branches. Reverse Tripod with lebes standing on podium. Mesh1 37; H. 486. Nearly Extremely Fine.

A well-detailed and pleasant example of the largest coin type which Herod minted.

Reverse Eagle standing left on thunderbolt, regnal inscription around; monograms in field. SNG Cop. 69 var.; cf. BMC p. 19; 51 (with Δ at ear?). Minor metal roughness before ear, otherwise bold, sharp strike, with pleasing iridescent toning. About Extremely Fine.
